THE PASSING OF TIME

So, you’re driving along enjoying that song you loved from 7 or 8 years ago when the announcer says, “A Number One smash from 1997 by……..”, and you think, where did the time go?

I’ve often found myself thinking about time in recent years. It’s possibly a product of getting older as it’s often said that the years seem to pass quicker as you age.   Certainly when I remember things like Live Aid it seems a lot more recent than 1985 although when I consider the amount of times I’ve seem footage of it since then, it’s no wonder it seems familiar.   In contrast, when I think what job I did back then (selling HP Sauce and Baked Beans if you’re interested) then that really does feel like a lifetime ago.

Additionally, physics tells us that time results from the existence of matter so effectively; time began when God created the universe.    Before that, there was only our eternal God.    Scripture reveals that God lives outside the bounds of time as we know it.    Our destiny was planned “before the beginning of time” (2 Timothy 1:9) and “before the creation of the world” (1 Peter 1:20).

As believers, it is reassuring to know that though timeless and eternal, God is with us right now.    And because He’s in this moment, He is always able to respond to our needs and prayers.

And next time you hear that old song you love, just enjoy it and don’t worry about its  release date (unless you’re a music nerd like me).
