What is God saying to us in 2020?

This month we have been asking this question in our preaching, expecting that God would meet with us and direct us in this season.  Four things came out of this:

Eliza shared about the importance of discerning and following the leading of the Holy Spirit in all things for this season. “I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions” (Joel 2:28)

Carol spoke about God’s desire to bless us this year, and as a response wrote a blessing prayer for Derby Urban Church as it comes into being which we are making into a bookmark.  Or you can download it here…

Graham brought the story of the people of Israel leaving slavery in Egypt.  The importance of unleavened bread with no yeast, carried out of Egypt wrapped in old clothes was that they had to go before they were ready.  So often in the bible everyone is told to wait for the time when God will fulfil his promises, but in this particular season they had to just go or miss the blessing. (Exodus 12-13

Marilyn turned to the vision God gave to Ezekiel of a valley of dry bones.  As Ezekiel prophecied and God breathed on them, dry bones came together with new life and formed a mighty army.  The challenge to us is to seek and expect so much more from God.  “So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone” (Ezekiel 37:7)
